In 1994, the Memorial was closed due to deterioration. In 1998, the public adopted a temp. sales tax to renovate and restore the Memorial.

Pleased and proud to work with @JudgeTedPoe, @EleanorNorton, and @EricCantor to honor WWI Vets with H.R. 6364.
It is never too late to demonstrate our appreciation to these veterans of the Great War for their service& sacrifice.
Frank Buckles, originally from MO, was the last surviving WWI vet. Unfortunately, he passed away during the drafting of this bill.
