Art Meets Beast: MCA Denver hosts bison carving and food porn

Art Meets Beast

Art Meets Beast is a nose-to-tail bison roast

Put on your bibs, Denver food fans, and maybe your blinders: The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver is once again gearing up for Art Meets Beast, a two-day extravaganza that features a nose-to-tail bison fest, complete with a butchering workshop of a whole bison, a subsequent feast, and what is billed as a “vegetarian pornographic food film with live score.”

We are not making this up.

The fun — well, except for the guest of honor, you know, the four-legged critter once featured on the back of the U.S. nickel — starts Friday Nov. 9 and runs through Saturday.

Here’s the line-up:

Nov. 9: Bison Carving and Food Pornography
Running 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., this event features a bison butchering workshop with Pete Marczyk of Marczyk Fine Foods. They’ll also be showing the vegetarian porn food film, whatever that is. It will be held at MCA Denver at 1485 Delgado St. Buy tickets here.

Nov. 10: 4H Livestock Showcase
Running 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Farm animal showcase presented by Urban Farm, with music and donuts. Held at MCA Denver. Free with museum admission.

Nov. 10: Kitchen-Farm-Cannery-Brewery tour
Running noon-3:30 p.m., this bus tour of urban food starts at The Kitchen Denver and travels to Happy Farm, MM Local and the Denver Beer Company. Lunch and drinks included. $55/$50 MCA members. Reservations required. Buy tickets here.

Nov. 10: Bison Feast and Music for Stampede.
Starts at 7 p.m., with dinner at 8 p.m. Presented by Jamey Fader of Lola, Keegan Gerhard of D Bar, Troy Guard of TAG, Max MacKissock of The Squeaky Bean, Jorel Piere of Euclid Hall and Sean Yontz of El Diablo and Sketch. At MCA Denver. Tickets: $85 in advance/$80 for MCA members/$100 at the door. Buy tickets here.
