12. Sava Savanovic, The Serbian Vampire

In November, ABC News reported that Serbia's most famous vampire, Sava Savanovic (pictured in this rare sepia photograph), was on the loose in Zarozje village, allegedly in the market for new real estate after the collapse of his former residence. "I understand that people who live elsewhere in Serbia are laughing at our fears, but here most people have no doubt that vampires exist," said a local municipal assembly member. A strong belief and interest in vampires is a major force in heavily forested, mountainous regions like those of Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Croatia, according to Dr. James Lyon, a Balkan historian. "Not," he notes, "[as] potential boyfriends."

10. The Baltic Sea Millenium Falcon

The Baltic Sea "UFO" first made headlines in the summer of 2011, but interest in the object resurfaced this summer, when the group of divers investigating the formation (or aircraft), the Ocean X Team, reported that the object was giving off "electrical interference" that broke all the devices they could have used to prove that it was totally Corellia-based in origin. Turns out, it was just a bunch of dumb sea rocks.

8. The Ukrainian Chupacabra

The tough thing about chupacabras — goat-suckers — is that they so often look basically exactly like a lot of other normal animals we already have: dogs, foxes, kangaroos. Still, "The animal doesn't look like a fox or a wolf, or a raccoon," said Mikhail Ilchenko, deputy head of the district veterinary service in Mikhailovskoe. "I have never seen such animal before." So he's either kind of a bad vet or we might, as one comment suggested, be seeing "a creature we were not supposed to see [that] has escaped from a secret defence lab."

6. Bigfoot Reclining Like He's Just At The Beach

I apologize, first of all, that this story comes from a blog called "Who Forted." The picture — reportedly taken by a game trapper in Alberta, Canada — led certain FWD editors to dismiss it as a "bear butt," but I love it because I think it looks like a a rear-view of a Sasquatch casually reclining, knees up, like this lady at the beach. He's relaxing!

4. Meteoric Iron Man From Space

This guy was actually discovered by Nazi archaeologists in 1939 (who possibly took the sculpture due to the swastika — a symbol of good in Hinduism — on its chest), but it was only through a paper published this year that it was revealed that the statue is made from meteoric materials, which makes you (or at least me) wonder if he was carved somewhere in space and then thrown here.
