NEW YORK (APS) – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has called for a ban on re-runs of the popular late 1950s and early 1960s television drama ‘The Rifleman’. According to Mayor Bloomberg, the television series falsely shows that all problems can be solved with a gun.
“From the opening moments of the show, we see Lucas McCain rapidly firing his gun while walking down the main street of North Folk,” said Mr. Bloomberg, “and the inference is that this man can save the day by shooting and killing people.”
The Mayor said that since this is not the message he wants people to learn while watching TV, the thing to do is to ban ‘The Rifleman’ on local TV stations. “I can’t stop cable TV, but I would hope that they would get the message and stop airing the show on their own.”
Donald Trump responded to Bloomberg’s call for banning ‘The Rifleman’ by saying, “If he thinks he can ban television shows, all I can say is, Mr. Bloomberg, you’re fired.” Mr. Trump then reminded the press that the new season of The Apprentice was coming to television soon.
