Highlights is our attempt to discover the most interesting passages of text on Huffington Post based on the activity of all HuffPost readers.
We produce a lot of content every day; this is our way to help you find interesting content you might not normally come across. When you see a quote you like, or that peaks your interest, you can click on it to go to the article that it's clipped from.
Every time you or any other ready copy a piece of text from Huffington Post, we give that passage a score. When a passage has been copied enough times to be considered "disproportionately interesting" we will send it to this page.
This happens a lot— on average more than 50,000 times each day. We use a few fancy algorithms to try and detect the most interesting passages, but it isn't perfect, so we give you the power to give quotes you like a +1, and quotes that don't make sense or aren't interesting you can trash.
The quotes in the latest category are the quotes that have just hit enough copy events to make it to the main page, they will fall to the bottom to the page over the course of the day. The popular page shows the best quotes in the last 24 hours by order of most copies, shares, and +1s.
Not necessarily. These are the quotes that users found interesting enough to copy, share, or save. A lot of times the quotes come from individuals we are writing about, and a lot of times they will be things we definitely DISAGREE with. That said, we do hope you will find some things that are interesting.
Well, you can submit a blog post to HuffPost, and if our readers like your ideas they can push them to the highlights page. On that note, when you're reading an article, keep an eye out for passages you'd like to see appear here. If you copy or share the quote, it very well may find its way here.
The front page shows the top quotes from across the whole site, and some verticals have text that gets shared or copied more frequently than others. That said, we have a button on the top bar of this page that lets you select the verticals you'd like to explore. Check out some verticals you've never read, you'd be surprised the gems you can find!
