Summary
- Correspondence, diaries, notebooks, drafts of speeches, reports, diplomatic messages, personal account books, and other papers relating to Seward's business and legal affairs and his personal finances. Family letters include a group written by Colonel John Seward during the American Revolution as well as several groups exchanged between members of Seward's immediate family during the 19th century. Papers for the gubernatorial period (1839-1842) include files of applications for political appointments and papers relating to resignations, to murder cases and applications for pardon, and to Indian affairs. Includes papers of Sewards sons: Augustus Henry Seward, Frederick William Seward, and Wm. Henry Seward; and the diaries of his daughter Frances Adeline Seward.
