About Us

The STEM Education Coalition works aggressively to raise awareness in Congress, the Administration, and other organizations about the critical role that STEM education plays in enabling the U.S. to remain the economic and technological leader of the global marketplace of the 21st century. The Coalition advocates for strengthening of STEM-related programs for educators and students and increased federal investments in STEM education. We also support robust federal investments in basic scientific research to inspire current and future generations of young people to pursue careers in STEM fields. Members of the STEM Coalition believe that our nation must improve the way our students learn science, mathematics, technology and engineering and that the business, education, and STEM communities must work together to achieve this goal.

  8. I am an 8th grade Physical Science teacher interested in adding more STEM inclusive lessons into my required standards based curriculum. While we do offer components of Project Lead the Way, we have limited this to our “advanced” classes. I would like to find additional resources that will allow all students more opportunity to be exposed to STEM.

  11. For the last 3 years I have advocated technical education for all children and young adults. My approach has been to build and present a robot that interacts with people of all ages. Currently I have been taking this robot to schools and into their tech. classes with great success. I am now working with some of the colleges and universities in Minnesota (Century, U of M, St. Thomas) to present technology to schools in a new and exciting way. With the exception of college students who have volunteered to intern with me I am basically working alone with no financial support whatsoever. My company name is Robotogram, named by the children who have seen it, because as they put it; it is a mechanical device that delivers a message. This new hands on approach is new and proven to be great way to open doors to a lot of school age children. In a nutshell, I would appreciate any help you would be able to provide so I can continue my work. Robotogram.com

I just retired after teaching elementary school – grades 1-4, after having taught for over 33 years. Integration of subject areas makes learning meaningful for students. In the present, most elementary schools are teaching “single” subjects from scripted toolkits. Time for social studies, time for literacy…time for science… I consider integration the “art” of teaching. It doesn’t come from a script. Present education is the “science” of teaching…each subject area follows it own formulas. Inquiry created critical thinkers….There were many ways to solve a math problem…The American school system for elementary students has gone so far backwards…Even technology is now taking a back seat. I am so glad to see that STEM is working to change the way education is NOT working. I am almost finished writing a book, “modeling” my last year of teaching second graders. I am presently a consultant for integrating literacy/social studies/technology with a global focus. I design integrated curriculums for elementary teachers as well. I would love to be part of STEM on an elementary level.

  25. I like the helpful information you supply to your articles. I will bookmark your weblog and check again here frequently. I am relatively sure I’ll be told a lot of new stuff proper right here! Good luck for the next!

  26. If you are interested in a STEM program in your area, I suggest that you first assess and analyze the needs of the businesses in your area. Create a Craft committee from your business community to allow them to provide you with the necessary information that employers are seeking (skills, personal character, knowledge, critical thinking, logic and employment readiness). Next, evaluate your current curriculum to determine if it is sufficient to meet the needs of employers or how can you tweak it within your strategy. Finally, get students involves so that they are definitely included in determining the
skill sets and body of knowledge that will fit within the overall
    methodology……much success.

I am a student at Norfolk State University, my major is Building Construction Technology. I am curious as to how I can be apart of the STEM program?

  30. Why STEM? To ignite a passion for applied science and engineering for the purpose of a/ increasing engineering school graduates that stay in the U.S. to supply the needs of corporations, main street, and entrepreneurial ventures; or b/ boosting the inventiveness and technical capabilities of all students entering the U.S. employment market. For those interested in a highly effective and easy means to use an Integrated STEM approach with all in-class equipment and step by step guide, please take a look at STEMgeo. Sure there are science and math program out there, but few have technology and engineering integrated into an interesting hands-on technical curriculum. Can a second grader understand how to calculate the velocity of a wave…of course she can!

Seven years ago, we started after school tutoring classes for refugee children who have come to the U.S.A. with almost an empty bag of the English Language skill . Some of these students are now being placed in leading private schools in our community. We have also started class for these children’s parent. How can we partner with STEM to get to higher heights.?
