DBASSE Reports Related to Gun Violence and Schools

In 2003, the Board on Children, Youth, and Families and the Committee on Law and Justice studied youth violence in schools.  In its report, Deadly Lessons: Understanding Lethal School Violence, the committee drew upon case studies of violence in schools during the 1990s to develop hypotheses to explain the growing incidence of lethal school violence.  A 2004 report from the Committee on Law and Justice, Firearms and Violence: A Critical Review, found that there is scant evidence about the effectiveness of current measures to prevent and control gun violence and outlined a comprehensive research program that could contribute to evidence-based conclusions and practice.
