As I wrote in last October, America should lead the international community into action in Somalia. This year, Foreign Policy listed Somalia as the World’s Most Failed State for the fourth year in a row, long before the current massive famine broke out. With a child dying every six minutes from malnutrition in the five southern states, Somalia is a humanitarian disaster zone.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s all-but-declared presidential bid garnered national attention recently when he characterized abortion and gay marriage as issues best left to states. After consternation from social conservatives, Perry flip-flopped and called for constitutional bans on both. Conservatism only afforded Perry a choice between the incoherent and the extreme.

Two years ago, director Ruben Fleischer's debut feature "Zombieland" showed his ability to juggle comedy and the violent anarchy of a zombie apocalypse. Instead of portraying a world consumed by fear and dread, the film was a freewheeling comedy that explored the recreational possibilities of an existence without rules. His latest film, "30 Minutes or Less," finds him once again taking what should be a morbid premise and mining it for laughs. It's less consistent than his last film, but when it throws caution to the wind, the film has its fair share of R-rated joys.
