We spent this election cycle visiting with 30 candidates in 15 key House races across the country. So how did the candidate profiled as part of our #5in5 project fare Tuesday night?

#5in5 trip 1: Iowa to Illinois:
Iowa 3: Rep. Tom Latham (R)* vs. Rep. Leonard Boswell
Iowa 4: Rep. Steve King (R)* vs. Christie Vilsack
Illinois 16: Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R)* vs. Wandal Rohl (D)
Illinois 8: Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) vs. Tammy Duckworth (D)*
Illinois 11: Rep. Judy Biggert (R) vs. former Rep. Bill Foster (D)*
#5in5 trip 2: Pennsylvania and Ohio:
Pennsylvania 12: Rep. Mark Critz (D) vs. Keith Rothfus (R)*

Republicans won at least nine of the 15 races profiled by #5in5. Of the two incumbent-vs.-incumbent matchups, Republicans won both (Latham and Renacci). We profiled three races where former House Democrats were running to return to Washington; two of those candidates won (Grayson and Foster). Of the nine tea party-backed freshmen we profiled, three of them lost (Walsh, Rivera and West).
You’ll notice that the last race listed — West vs. Murphy — has no asterisk. That’s because the race is undergoing a recount. If Murphy prevails, he will be the only winner among the six first-time Democratic candidates profiled. Among those Democrats, Val Demings performed the best, suggesting she could run again (especially if her Florida district is redrawn after several court challenges).
