Talking Book Library

A Regional Library of the National Library Service (NLS) of the blind and physically handicapped.

This service is for eligible Montana residents who are unable to use standard print materials due to visual, physical and/or reading disabilities.

Who can use the Montana Talking Book Library?

Eligible Montana residents who are unable to use standard print materials due to visual, physical and/or reading disabilities can apply to the Montana Talking Book Library to receive free mail loan of recorded books and playback equipment. Eligibility is determined based on National Library Service Standards. Currently, 2,600 eligible Montanans actively use this free service.

The Montana Talking Books Library advises and assists individuals, other libraries, nursing homes, schools, and institutions in providing library services to eligible handicapped individuals.

Inter-library loan services are available between participating libraries.

Over 800 locally produced Montana cassette books are recorded in our local studios.

Braille embossed books are available free to active patrons of the Montana Talking Book Library through an interview process with the regional librarian. Braille services are contracted with the Utah State library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
