Science Liaison Librarian

Responsibilities
Provide leadership in the planning, implementation, and assessment of library programs and services in support of the sciences; serve as a liaison with science faculty and students to support teaching, learning and research activities.

Essential functions:
1. Serve as the library's resource specialist for the sciences and represent the information needs of the science faculty and students within the library.
2. Work closely with faculty and librarians to support information literacy initiatives; actively participate in course integrated instruction for the sciences. May provide introductory instruction for core courses in other fields.
3. Recommend print and digital science resources for the library collection and contribute to collection development decisions and initiatives. Spend allocated collection development funds in a timely and responsible manner.
4. Foster communication between the science departments and the library.
5. Develop web based resources in the sciences and contribute to the overall web presence of the library.
6. Become familiar with research and curricular activities of the science departments and associated interdisciplinary programs.
7. Deliver reference and research consultation in traditional and digital environments.
8. Participate in professional activities and departmental planning.
9. Participate in developing and implementing innovative digital public service programs and projects.
10. Keep abreast of developments in information technology, transfer, and management, particularly in the area of scholarly communication.
11. Participate in the research and technical evaluation of new trial databases and other products; analyze and recommend potential changes/improvements to services and products.
12. Serve on library and campus committees.
13. Engage in ongoing assessment of library resources and services.


Qualifications
Required:
--An ALA accredited MLS or its equivalent.
--Substantial coursework in the sciences.
--Familiarity with science information resources and user needs.
--Demonstrated team and project leadership skills.
--Experience or training in teaching or instructional activities.
--Reference experience or training.
--Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and collegially with library staff, faculty and students.
--Ability to function effectively in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.
--Working knowledge of current and emerging information technologies and their potential applications and opportunities for the library.
--Excellent organizational, analytical, time management and communication skills.
--Strong commitment to excellence in public service.
--An understanding of and commitment to the educational objectives of the university and the ability to contribute significantly to the role of the library in the educational process.
--Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
