Congressman Lucas Named Texas Wheat Man of the Year
Congressman Frank Lucas was busy working on farm legislation in Washington, D.C., last week but in Amarillo, Texas, he was being honored as the 2012 Texas Wheat Man of the Year. The annual award, sponsored by the Texas Wheat Producers Association (TWPA), was announced Nov. 27, during the Commodity Symposium Reception.

“We could not be more pleased to present this award to Chairman Lucas,” TWPA Executive Vice President Rodney Mosier said. “During one of the most trying times for agricultural policy, his leadership and foresight has protected farmers despite others' efforts to disrupt rural America with burdensome regulations, drastic budget cuts and inequitable farm programs.”

The House Agricultural Committee Chairman addressed the group by video, thanking them for the award and highlighting the importance of his activities in Washington.

“We’re attempting, on the House Agricultural Committee, to finish our work when it comes to the 2012 farm bill,” said Lucas. “I don’t have to tell this group how important those issues are when it comes to our future and the future of rural America.”

During his remarks, the congressman expressed special appreciation for Texas wheat growers as he credited his start in agriculture to his grandfather who was born in Corsicana, Texas.

...
and become a member of the House of Representatives and ultimately chairman,” said Lucas.

The annual award presented by the TWPA honors agricultural leaders for their dedication and service to Texas wheat producers.
