Boustany: Jobs Are the Top Priority

Washington, DC – U.S. Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s address to Congress:

“Job creation is my top priority.  An overly complex tax code, bureaucratic ambiguity, and burdensome regulations are the biggest obstacles for job growth.  The Obama Administration has created today’s environment where small and large businesses continue to struggle and are reluctant to hire or expand.  The President’s proposal for more failed stimulus spending isn’t a serious or credible solution.

“America’s economic competitiveness in the 21st century is at risk.  We have the assets and the ingenuity to get this country working again and reclaim our economic standing.  As demonstrated by another massive deepwater oil discovery off the Louisiana coast, this nation has the means and resources to compete and succeed globally. Our large and small energy producers and service companies are eager to get back to work after the President’s moratorium, but the Administration keeps bureaucratic roadblocks in place that prevent America’s energy producers from going back to work.  Enhancing America’s competitiveness requires a sound energy policy, health-care reforms protecting the doctor-patient relationship, fiscal restraint and fundamental tax reform, and an export-oriented trade policy to stimulate job growth.”
