- These men appear to be all business. - qpmarl42
- the visible area of the benches is occupied mostly by women. - qpmarl42
- these genuine old photos have an honesty that you don't get with staged shots. - qpmarl42
- think it has to do with the fact that cameras where uncommon in those days.. and people where still real instead of fake. nowadays everyone is so used to cams that everyone changes into this posed person - Jimbography ;-)

- I disagree. You're right in that people were not used to cameras, but they would often pose for one. In fact there was a time when this was the only way to make a photograph. - gregpphoto

- Looks like light kinks to me. They happen when you bend the negative too far/hard before developing - suburbannation
- More likely from cigarette smoke. When they cleaned off the ceiling of Grand Central Terminal they found out the soot wasn't from coal, but tar and nicotine - suburbannation

Incredible crepuscular rays. I dread to think what an HDR version would look like.

I prefer the non-restored version. The detail in the dark is what makes this photo truly spectacular.

ElizabethMartin, the detail is still visible in the restored version. Flickr just has a bad habit of making the thumbnails darker than the original image.

I found these on the internet this summer. I thought they had shut down the site, but I'm so glad that someone is letting them be on flickr. There is one of boats in shadows on the beach by an unknown photog I hope to find.
Thank you!
