CONGRESSMAN AUSTRIA LAUDS BRAC-DIRECTED RESEARCH COMPLEX COMPLETION

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Austria (R-Beavercreek) released the following statement about the completion of the Major General Harry G. Armstrong Complex for the 711th Human Performance Wing at the Air Force Research Laboratory. Due to a meeting with President Obama about the debt limit, Congressman Austria was unable to attend today’s ribbon cutting.

“Today's ribbon cutting represents an exciting new chapter for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with the completion of the Major General Harry G. Armstrong Complex for the 711th Human Performance Wing at the Air Force Research Laboratory,” Congressman Austria said. “The programs that this facility will house have the potential of bringing more than 1,000 new jobs to the base and further its reputation for excellence and ingenuity. This is a direct result of the 2005 BRAC, which the entire community worked together to successfully complete. As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, which oversees all military construction funding, I was especially pleased to hear that this project was completed before schedule and under budget.”

This 668,000 square foot, $239 million facility named in honor of Major General Harry G. Armstrong – one of the first true advocates of human-centric research to support warfighters – will house the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, the Human Effectiveness and Human Performance Integration Directorates, and the Naval Medical Research Unit-Dayton. The complex will now serve as Joint Department of Defense Center of Excellence for human performance in the areas of education and training, research and development, and clinical evaluation and consultation.
