This aerial photo shows the giant X cut into the hillside as part of a 1970s art project by Robert Morris, as well as the amount of dirt taken from Belknap Park for use in freeway construction around Grand Rapids.

In the 1930s, baseball fields and a scenic drive at Belknap Park were constructed by workers in city manager George Welsh s scrip labor program, a precursor to the nationwide Works Projects Administration during the Depression Era.

Belknap Hill has been a source of city drinking water since incorporation. This reservoir was built in the mid-1870s in this undated photo taken sometime around 1900.

Belknap Hill has been a source of city drinking water since incorporation. Reservoir busts in 1880, and this one in 1900, which flooded portions of Newberry, Coit, Clancy and Bradford Streets along Coldbrook Creek in this old cyanotype image of the disaster.

Lookout Park on Belknap Hill has long been a popular place to taken in views of the Grand Rapids skyline and river valley. The Hiker statue in the foreground of this early postcard was moved to Foster Park in 1957.

Shipping: Just as people become more accustomed to shopping online, shipping prices are going up. U.S. Postal Service, FedEx and UPS are raising rates by nearly 5 percent.

Desktop computers and hard drives: With demand growing for laptops and tablets, production of desk tops is expected to decrease. Less competition means higher prices. Epic flooding in Thailand has disrupted production of hard drives, inflating prices by 30-40 percent. Costs are expected to come down in the spring when production catches up with demand.
