besides the "exciting possibilities" offered, has anyone thought about space debris mitigation? Nano- und cube-sats are starting to become a real problem, often without sufficient awareness by their operators. These origami sats for astronomy missions would probably go into rather high and long-living orbits. There are aspects like controllability, maneuverability, observability, ... to be adressed. This, of course, would reduce the effectiveness and attractiveness of these sats, because effort and cost would rise while operational regimes would be shrunk.
I am rather apprehensive of this new generation of sats ...
