They call it the Daytona 500 of powerboat racing. The Key West World Championship, which runs through Nov. 11 in Key West, packs thousands of spectators along this island city’s waterfront.
The fastest powerboats in the world, some sporting four engines and measuring more than 50 feet long, are getting ready to battle it out just yards from shore. While dozens of powerboat races may take place each year all across the country, only the biggest, fastest boats make it to Key West for the Worlds.
Most of the action takes place along a 6.5-mile stretch of the course that runs through Key West Harbor. The water is smooth so racers can let it all hang out. There are nine different Superboat classes competing so race fans will have plenty to choose from. Click here for more information.
