Fashion Face-Off: Who was the best dressed red carpet couple of 2012? -- POLL

While the relationship of Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield generated far fewer headlines than that of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in 2012, the celebrity couple next door certainly gave the Twilight twosome a run for their money when it came to red carpet style.

Both women scored spots on Vogue‘s 2012 Best Dressed list, while their respective leading men showed they weren’t afraid to wear color.

At the Paris premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man, Garfield’s Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière suit matched Stone’s very berry lip color. (All together now: ”awww.”)

Meanwhile in Hollywood, KStew (in a totally see-through gown by designer Zuhair Murad) and RPatz (in a green Gucci suit he helped design) were smoking hot when they delivered the final installment in The Twilight Saga series.

Whether you’re a star on the rise or a woman in her prime, there’s no better time to break out the sequins and metallics than New Year’s Eve, just ask Nashville costume designer Susie DeSanto.

“Gold is really popular right now, and sparkles are in.” DeSanto told EW. “Honestly, what’s in the stores and what the designers are doing I’m like, ‘Thank you so much!’ There are so many clothes I have to get for Nashville.”

When DeSanto dressed Connie Britton’s character Rayna Jaymes and Hayden Panittere’s Juliette Barnes for a scene at the famed Ryman Theater, she went for the gold with sexy dresses that were also age-appropriate. “Speaking to their characters, I wanted to make sure that there was a generational difference,” DeSanto said. What’s the trick to wearing metallics in your 20′s, 30′s and 40′s?  READ FULL STORY »

New Year's Eve style inspired by 'Mad Men'

All eyes were on Megan Draper (Jessica Paré) when she serenaded her husband with “Zou Bisou Bisou.” Mad Men costume designer Janie Bryant helped create the memorable moment when she dressed the character in a sultry cocktail dress.

“It was really the first time the audience has seen a mini on Mad Men, so it was important for the scene to be all about her,” Bryant told EW of Megan’s vintage dress, which she borrowed from Hollywood’s Costume Rentals Corporation. “I made the bell shape [sleeves] bigger so they would be more dramatic for dancing.”

Want to be the center of attention this New Year’s Eve? Read on to get Bryant’s tips for recreating Megan Draper’s ultra-sexy look.  READ FULL STORY »

The Look of 'Les Miserables': Creating costumes for a cast of thousands -- VIDEO

les-mis-costumes.jpg

Though his past work has mostly been on smaller projects like Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful and Álex de la Iglesia’s The Last Circus, Spanish costume designer Paco Delgado was called on to create an epic wardrobe for the cast of nearly 4,000 actors in Les Misérables.

Among his most difficult tasks; manually distressing costumes worn by the down-and-out Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) and the ill-fated Fantine (Anna Hathaway) to make them look threadbare, clothing scores of extras who filled in the ranks of convicts, prostitutes and revolutionaries, and coming up with historically accurate togs for Gavroche (Daniel Huttlestone) and the other the pint-sized street urchins.

Delgado also injected doses of color — specifically the color red — to the otherwise bleak scene of 19th century Paris. As for characters like Monsieur and Madame Thénardier, played to perfection by Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen, their costumes are a sort of comic relief. ”[We] were trying to bring their personalities, somehow, into the movie,” Delgado says of using garish fabrics to create the couple’s eccentric wardrobe.

Watch the video below for a behind-the-scenes look at the costumes of Les Misérables, which hits theaters on December 25.  READ FULL STORY »

Finale Fashion Face-Off: Britney Spears vs. Christina Aguilera -- POLL

Between The Voice and The X Factor, it was an epic week of reality singing competition finales, but for PopStylers, the real showdown was between age-old rivals Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

Normally it’s Aguilera who opts for the plunging neckline, but the “Genie in a Bottle” singer (like how I went with a classic? Forget Lotus) was surprisingly restrained on Tuesday night’s Voice finale. Who knows? Maybe she wanted to redeem herself after last year’s sparkly hot pants debacle. The coach sported jeans, an open drape jacket, and a loose-fitting (!!!) shirt. Top it all off with a blonde bob and a strong red lip, and she looked almost… classy.

Spears, on the other hand, went with a backless bodice dress with sheer front panels by Bottega Veneta, towering over her contestant, 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar, in YSL heels. While I’m a fan of the two tones (if not the bondage vibe), the whole look is made sloppy by the high bun. Come on, Britney! You’re better than this.

Those are my thoughts, but which outfit do you like better? Vote below!

PopStyle Kudos: Britney Spears' 'X Factor' fashion comeback

Britney, you’ve had a number of fashion missteps over the years. There was that awful appearance at the AMAs in ’01 when you turned up in a denim dress (I blame JT for that one), that time you performed at the MTV Video Music Awards wearing a sequined bra and panties, and don’t even get me started on the whole shaving your head incident. So when you decided to re-invent yourself as an X Factor judge, I’ll admit I had my doubts. After all, your old rival Christina Aguilera has worn a bevy of nightmarish outfits on The Voice. Would you fall prey to the same fate?

But you surprised me, Brit. The woman who took that chair traded midriff-baring tops and an over-abundance of fishnets for figure-flattering dresses, posh heels, and a sleek hairstyle. It’s not just a fashion comeback, it’s a fashion triumph! In honor of tonight’s X Factor finale, here’s a look back at some of your best outfits this season. SEE MORE PHOTOS
