Today, VISIT FLORIDA – the state’s official tourism marketing corporation – is proud to announce the selection of Will Seccombe as its new President and CEO. Seccombe, VISIT FLORIDA’s Chief Marketing Officer since 2008, has been serving as the Acting President and CEO since Chris Thompson’s departure to head Brand USA. Today’s unanimous vote by the VISIT FLORIDA Board of Directors to have Seccombe become Thompson’s permanent replacement is the culmination of a deliberate process by a six-member executive search committee in concert with the national recruiting firm SearchWide.

Florida Tourism Industry on Pace for Another Record Year

According to preliminary estimates* released today by VISIT FLORIDA - the state’s official tourism marketing corporation - 21.9 million visitors came to Florida in the third quarter of 2012 (July-September), an increase of 3.5 percent over the same period in 2011. Direct travel-related employment in Florida also rose 1.5 percent over third quarter 2011 to 1,020,200, an addition of 15,000 jobs since this time last year.

VISIT FLORIDA CEO Chris Thompson Tapped to Head Brand USA

Today, VISIT FLORIDA – the state’s official tourism marketing corporation – held a Board of Directors meeting to establish a formal process for filling its soon-to-be vacant President and CEO position. This vacancy was created when Chris Thompson was officially announced as Brand USA’s new President and CEO, effective November 1, 2012. As part of the meeting, a formal search committee made up of six board members was appointed. The board voted unanimously to have Will Seccombe, VISIT FLORIDA’s CMO since 2008, serve as Acting President and CEO to bridge the time between Thompson’s departure and the naming of a permanent replacement.

Florida Tourism Industry on Pace for Record Year

According to preliminary estimates* released today by VISIT FLORIDA - the state’s official tourism marketing corporation – 22.1 million visitors came to Florida in the second quarter of 2012 (April-June), an increase of 1.3 percent over the same period in 2011. Direct travel-related employment in Florida also rose 1.1 percent to 1,041,900, adding 11,300 jobs since this time one year ago and representing the largest employment total since first quarter 2008.

Florida Experiences Record Visitation in 2011

According to preliminary estimates* released today by VISIT FLORIDA - the state’s official tourism marketing corporation - an estimated 85.9 million visitors came to Florida in 2011, an increase of 4.4 percent over 2010. This represents a record year for visitation to Florida, exceeding the previous high of 84.5 million in 2007. Direct travel-related employment in Florida also rose to a near record high of 1,013,100, adding more than 38,000 jobs and representing a 3.9 percent increase over 2010.
