    Maj. Gen. John A. Macdonald received his second star during a promotion ceremony Jan. 11 that officially elevated the Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Headquarters to a two-star command. Macdonald, who commanded the Army Community and Family Support Center in Alexandria, Va., for 16 months in 2004-06, has returned for a second go-round with the same organization under a new name. He also will continue to serve as Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Installation Command in Arlington.

As of Jan. 3, the Fort Bragg SFAC in the Soldier Support Center became fully operational as an SFAC hub for Warrior Transition Battalion Soldiers and their Families.

    Two Soldiers from Fort Sill, Okla., will step onto the stage Monday and perform live on NBCAca,!a,,cs newest holiday special, Aca,!A"Clash of the Choirs.Aca,!A? The two soldiers were among twelve who auditioned in Oklahoma City to become part of Blake SheltonAca,!a,,cs hometown choir. SheltonAca,!a,,cs choir will compete against four others, each hand selected by a music legend, in a four-day live mini-series. The choirs will be judged by the viewing audience as they compete in a variety of music genres ranging from current hits to holiday classics.

    The 2008 edition of the U.S. Army Soldier Show is headed in a new direction Aca,!" in more ways than one. Tim Higdon will take the directorAca,!a,,cs chair from fellow Soldier Show alum Victor Hurtado, who has directed the Army Entertainment DivisionAca,!a,,cs marquee production for the past seven years. The show will feature a more militaristic format and employ an unprecedented number of dancers. The whole experience will resemble a battlefield environment.

  • Army to launch Wounded Warrior Sports program

    The U.S. Army will launch a Wounded Warrior Sports Program for active-duty Soldiers with life-altering injuries in January, giving them the opportunity to at the national-level. The Army will pay for the athletesAca,!a,,c registration fees, transportation, lodging and per diem while they compete at selected events. Athletic attire also will be issued to the Soldiers, who will represent the Army during competitions.

The Army Family Covenant represents a $1.4 billion commitment to improve the quality of life for Army Families. It formally recognizes the sacrifices made on the home front while the Army is at war and pledges to standardize funding for existing Family programs and services. The covenant also seeks to increase the accessibility and quality of health care, improve Soldier and Family housing, ensure excellence in schools, youth services and child care, and expand education and employment opportunities for Family members.
