  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Rep. Sutton Issues Statement on 10th Anniversary of 9/11/01 Attacks

Today, Congresswoman Betty Sutton (OH-13) released the following statement in response the upcoming 10th Anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the United States:

“We will never forget where we were when we first heard the news. We will never forget the images, the sounds, and sense of disbelief. Most of all, we will never forget those who were lost and how we joined together in mourning their death.

In the decade since the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the failed attack from United Flight 93 that was stopped by so many brave Americans, we have seen the events of that day ripple throughout our society.

We have seen a new federal department arise to improve our safety. We are more aware, more vigilant, and more dedicated to our security and the security of those around us.

We have seen our brave troops fight for our nation in Afghanistan. We have seen proud military families carry on in the absence of their soldiers and we have grieved for those who have suffered injury or paid the ultimate sacrifice. We have seen our military and intelligence men and women courageously work to capture and kill the mastermind of the attack on our country, Osama Bin Laden.

We have faced challenges over the last 10 years, but in spite of those challenges and the horrible loss endured on that day, it is important to remember how we came together as a country in the face of extreme adversity. We remember those brave first responders and citizens on the scene who came to the aid of fellow Americans in the aftermath. We remember how all of us, the American People, came together standing strong, demonstrating our unshakable dedication and love toward our neighbors and our great nation.

On this the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, it is critically important that we remember that we can do it again. In a time when we still face significant obstacles in putting Americans back to work and rebuilding our economy, we must never forget that for all of our differences, we are one nation. We must never forget that for every political fight there is common ground, and for every problem there is a solution.

Today, as we keep the memories of the victims and their families of that horrific attack 10 years ago in our thoughts and prayers, we must never forget what we as a country can do when we come together, and we must recommit ourselves to work in that spirit to make our country and our world a better place.”
