  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Adopt timetable to withdraw troops from Iraq

My recent trip to Iraq left me with two very distinct impressions. First, I was awestruck by the courage of our troops. Seeing them in action, full of dedication and heart, is simply breathtaking. Second, I am more convinced than ever that despite the military success we have made or might achieve in the future, the lack of political progress by the Iraqi government has placed our troops in the position of policing and refereeing a civil war.

Based upon my review of the situation on the ground, briefings with U.S. military leaders and discussions with government officials in Iraq and surrounding Gulf states, I believe, more than ever, that the current open-ended policy of keeping our troops in Iraq without a timetable for responsible redeployment must change.

The Plain Dealer mischaracterized my position on withdrawing troops, reporting that I believe the political situation must improve before we withdraw troops (Oct. 9). That is incorrect. Our troops and our country have paid a high price to provide Iraq with an opportunity for unity - more than 3,800 U.S. troops lost and nearly $500 billion spent. It is time for a new course.
