Holiday City Sidewalks Happen on Indianapolis’ Georgia Street Dec. 7 – 9

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style… In the air there’s a feeling of Christmas.” (Silver Bells, Jay Livingston and Ray Evans)

Indianapolis Downtown is getting into the holiday spirit, and holding another event on Georgia Street, with their City Sidewalks event, December 7 – 9.

For those three days, Georgia street will look a lot like Christmas, with free ice skating, Santa Claus, musical performances, a nativity scene, plenty of shopping, kid’s activities, and freshly-cut Christmas trees for sale.

Ice skating: A free outdoor ice skating rink (including skates) will be available, and the rink will be made of artificial ice, so don’t worry about the weather. But move fast, because the rink will only be up for these three days.

Shop Indiana Artisan booths: Numerous local artisans will sell their holiday wares, including jewelry, candy, gourmet popcorn, willow baskets, paper art, hot sauces, and wine.

Santa visits: Visit Santa at the Omni Severin Downtown Hotel, Ballroom lobby, on the 8th and 9th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Holiday performances: Enjoy local choirs, singers including the Indianapolis Opera and other musicians throughout the weekend.

St. John’s Catholic Church: Live Christmas trees will be for sale. And there will be an outdoor live nativity scene. Bring the kids for cookie decorating and a coloring station. Tour the church, and enjoy some hot chocolate and mulled apple cider.

Block Party: On the east block of Georgia Street (closest to Bankers Life Fieldhouse), from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Friday.

City Sidewalk hours

  • Friday, Dec. 7: 2 – 8 p.m. (Ice skating rink opens at 4 p.m.!)

Downtown Will Be Hopping This Weekend!

It’s going to be very busy downtown this entire weekend, so you’ll want to either get there early, or find a place to park. The International Motorsports Industry Show will be at the Indiana Convention Center December 6 – 8. Friday the 7th is First Friday along Mass Ave and in Fountain Square, and our Pacers are playing the Denver Nuggets. And there are three bands playing at the Old National Centre/Murat Theater: Straight No Chaser, twenty-one-pilots, and Aaron Lewis.

Saturday is the Hoosier Invitational, with five high school basketball games. The World Spirit Federation cheer competition takes place on December 8th and 9th at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium. And finally the Colts are hoping to continue their winning streak against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, December 9th. And finally, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is playing two Christmas shows at Bankers Life Fieldhouse that day.
