The Olympics and Olympic athletes have been the subject
of numerous doctoral dissertations and masters theses. Citations
to these works may be found in Dissertation Abstracts International,
which also includes some masters theses. The Library has a comprehensive
set of those U.S. dissertations whose citations include an order
number, indicating that they have been filmed by University Microfilms.
These are available in the Microform
Reading Room; they can be requested from the microform stacks
using the order number.
Masters theses and foreign dissertations are more problematic,
as the Library has relatively few. The latter are frequently available
through the Center for Research
Libraries in Chicago, but must be borrowed through a participating
institution. Theses, in most cases, must either be borrowed through
interlibrary loan or purchased. Dissertation Abstracts
is an excellent source for identifying these academic publications,
regardless of their availability. The University of Oregon films
dissertations and theses in sport, recreation, and physical education.
