The program, called Jacksonville MoneyWi$e Week, is being sponsored by the city, Family Foundations, University of North Florida, Bank of America and Jacksonville University. “The whole purpose is to improve the financial literacy of our community,” said Donnie Horner, the mayor’s education commissioner....

Aging True, a nonprofit agency that serves Northeast Florida seniors, joined with two automotive dealerships in December to deliver hand-sewn and stuffed-to-the-brim holiday stockings to 200 Jacksonville seniors.



By: Roger Bull on January 10, 2012 - 3:00pm - Add new commentLast week, the Florida attorney general’s office filed suit against two South Florida firms which promised homeowners that for $300 a month, they could not only avoid foreclosure, they could stay in the homes for years without paying their mortgage, insurance or taxes. Apparently there are lots of similar operations out there. The Times-Union is looking for homeowners who have paid money to firms that didn’t deliver on their promises to help avoid foreclosure....

They're not even easy to give away. People are stuck with them. Naturally, whenever there are people in trouble, scam artists move in. One common tactic is to tell a timeshare owner that you've got a buyer for it, but he's going to have to pay you first. A South Florida woman was sentenced Monday for just that....
