College Launches Web Site to Highlight Prestigious Awards, Honors |
May 1, 2009 The College of Arts & Sciences recently introduced a new Web feature focusing on awards and honors. After months of design and content planning, the College officially launched an in-depth site at http://ashonors.okstate.edu. It highlights College- and University-wide awards and honors received by faculty, staff and student achievements. Stories spotlighting faculty, staff and students also are featured. “We created the site because the College has presented and received more than 1,000 honors over the past few years,” said Thomas Wikle, the College’s associate dean for academic programs. “The site contains information that shows current and future students, as well as faculty and staff, the many opportunities available at OSU. It also allows us a chance to say thank you to the individuals and organizations that provide scholarships and fellowships to the College of Arts and Sciences.” |

College Honors Lead Researcher Behind Hepatitis Vaccine |
April 30, 2009 One of the lead researchers behind hepatitis vaccines was named 2009 Distinguished Alumnus for the College of Arts and Sciences on April 24. Dr. Robert Purcell, the co-chief of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., was presented with the honor at the College’s honors and awards banquet. In his address, Purcell encouraged students to be receptive to new opportunities. “Working on hepatitis A opened up many possibilities,” he said. “That period was a wonderful convergence of history and science because at the time nothing – I mean nothing – was known about viral hepatitis.” Photo: Dr. Robert Purcell, 2009 Distinguished Alumnus, is shown with national scholarship recipient Kyle Ensley, a double major in political science and international business from Valliant, Okla. |
