Activate Power Management on Your Computer

Most of you already have your monitor set to enter a low-power sleep mode when the computer is not being used. However, the computer itself is rarely set to enter this same low-power mode. Did you know you can activate these settings on the computer quickly and easily and double your savings?

Click on your operating system listed below and follow the instructions. Your computer, like your monitor, will enter a low-power mode automatically after a period of inactivity and “awaken” in seconds when you wiggle your mouse or touch your keyboard.

Activate power management on your computer
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Vista
Microsoft Windows 7
Mac OS

You will:

  • Save up to $50 annually on your electricity bills
  • Save time by eliminating the daily wait to reboot since you do not have to turn your computer off manually
  • Help the environment by reducing air pollution associated with the burning of fossil fuels

Please note: Computer users requiring remote access to their desktops (via Remote Desktop, for instance) should only activate monitor sleep setting as the computer may be able to remotely “wake” computers from sleep mode.
