Six of the 48 students named by the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association as OSU Seniors of Significance for the 2012-2013 academic year are from Edmond.

Frontier Elementary will be Edmond’s 16th grade school
Edmond Board of Education members approved a committee recommendation for the name of Edmond’s 16th elementary school during Monday’s meeting.
Frontier Elementary is scheduled to open in the fall of 2013, said Lynne Rowley, director of elementary education. The school is now under construction south of Covell Road on Pennsylvania Avenue. -

Education lobbying group may expand to metro area
A Tulsa-based parents group founded to influence Oklahoma’s public education legislation may be expanding to the Edmond and Oklahoma City areas.
Mellisa Abdo, president of the Tulsa-area Parent Legislative Action Committee (PLAC), was invited to speak to Oklahoma City area superintendents, administrators and parents Wednesday at the Edmond Public Schools administrative offices. -

The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, a statewide charitable organization that recognizes and encourages academic excellence in Oklahoma’s public schools, has announced the addition of 14 new members to its Board of Trustees.

Camp Fire offers winter break camp
Camp Fire Heart of Oklahoma Council is offering its second season of “G.O.T.C.H.A.” (Great Outdoor Teaching Classroom Holiday Adventure). Enrollment for the winter break session is now open.

Youth Leadership Oklahoma applications due
Leadership Oklahoma, a statewide leadership program, is now accepting applications for its 2013 Youth Leadership Oklahoma (YLOK) class to be held June 9-14, 2013. Applicants must be high school juniors or home schooled equivalent with at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The application deadline is Dec. 4.
