  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Rep. Sutton Announces New Health Care Information Resource

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Betty Sutton (D-Ohio) announces the launch of HealthCare.gov, a comprehensive website designed to guide consumers through the benefits and requirements of health care reform. It hosts a wealth of clear, jargon-free information, including a consumer-friendly tool that will help individuals and small businesses navigate the complicated process of shopping for health insurance.

The creation of this website was one of the key features for consumers included in the Health Insurance Reform legislation that was signed into law in March.

"Information is power, and this site puts power back into Ohioans' hands," said Rep. Sutton. "Whether you're a new college graduate, a family who has recently lost insurance or someone with a pre-existing condition - this site has a list of insurance options available for you. For seniors, HealthCare.gov includes information about how Medicare has been strengthened, long-term care improved, the steps being taken to close the prescription drug donut hole and that starting in 2011 annual wellness exams and certain preventive services will be free. I urge all Ohioans to use this resource and learn how the health reform law can help you."

The core of the new website is the powerful insurance options finder. After consumers input a few pieces of background information - such as state, age range and current insurance status - the tool will generate a list of both private and public health insurance options. The tool will list details of insurance plans offered in that state, and include contact information for each company so consumers can contact the companies that best fit their needs. Beginning in October, the tool will also include pricing information, further simplifying health insurance shopping.

The insurance options finder has a database of over 2 billion scenarios, with listings from more than 1000 insurance carriers and over 5500 insurance products. The website also hosts over 500 new pages of content, such as a health care reform implementation timeline and state-by-state information for individuals with pre-existing conditions.
