Game Goes To Geffen, Takes Huge L

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Game_Dre.jpg

We all knew this was coming, but now I guess it’s official. The following statement is posted on the Aftermath website:

It’s official – Game is off the Math. There were a lot of rumors about The Game leaving Aftermath in the last weeks. The Game is now on Geffen Records.

His upcoming album "The Doctor’s Advocate" is scheduled to release in Nov 7 and features appearances from Nas and Mary J Blige, while production is supplied by Dr. Dre, Cool & Dre, Scott Storch and among others.

I don’t care how Game or BWS try to spin this, he lost. "Oh but he’s still working with Dre." Ha. I wonder if Dre knows that. We’re looking for Dr. Dre Game, not Cool and Dre. Musically, I guess I still look forward more to this album than another 50 disc, but wow…he took a L. The idea that 50 is single handedly responsible for Game’s success is ridiculous to say the least, and Little J.T. is a talented kid, but without Dre overseeing this album, November 7th is gonna be an interesting day.

(Of course when I say Nov. 7th, I mean whatever day in late October that it leaks.)

(Did I mention he took an L?)

More Trouble For Star

Friday, July 28th, 2006

star_buck.jpg

Even though I still think Star deserves a good old fashion ass whipping for the whole Envy incident, I have to admit, this shit is pretty funny. If you listened to his show back in 03-04, you’ll remember he had a co-host named Prozac Girl. When the show got cancelled on Hot 97, they moved to Hartford, CT station Power 104.1 and Prozac (who’s real name is Keysha Whitaker) went with them. Well now she’s suing him because of a little incident that she says got her fired:

From the Connecticut Post

During the May 24, 2004, broadcast, Torain (Star) spat on Candelaria (the show’s producer Miguel) and said, "all of you in here are going to get anointed with my spit," the suit alleges.

Following the show, the suit claims, Whitaker told Candelaria she would resign if Torain insisted upon "anointing her with his saliva."

Three days later, the suit claims, Candelaria shot a "phlegm-laden" launch at a character named "Crossover Negro Reese," a newsman. Torain then threatened to spit on Whitaker, who again objected, the suit charges.

At that point she was fired by Miguel and claims that she received a call from Star during which he told her she was let go because she was "sick" and "disabled." Ok, so this is pretty typical Star behavior and wouldn’t really make headlines if it wasn’t for the lawsuit, but goddamn that’s a funny story. Needless to say, somebody would be getting punched in the face if any spit ever came flying my way at any job, regardless of the setting.

More info on the Clipse album which allegedly drops on Halloween, and the movie they’re planning to accompany it.

So is Fat Joe off Atlantic or what?

Commenting on his slap on the wrist he got yesterday, Star says there’s a big difference between mainstream talk and ‘hood’ talk. You got that right, in the real world you could go to jail, in the hood you get dealt with in a slightly different manner.

TMZ has some footage of X wilding out in the lobby of the courthouse after getting served with a paternity lawsuit. They also have the clip of him spitting for reporters outside court on a seperate occaison, which yes I know is old.

Charges Dropped Against Star

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

The New York D.A.’s office made it clear today that it is perfectly acceptable in this city to threaten to pee on a 4 year old child:

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Criminal charges against a New York hip-hop disc jockey — fired for racist and sexually threatening comments about a rival’s wife and daughter — will be dropped, the District Attorney’s office said on Thursday.

The case against Troi Torain, who goes by the name DJ Star, will be dropped in six months if he does three days community service and stays away from the four-year-old victim of his comments, said New York District Attorney spokeswoman Barbara Thompson.

Ok, Envy, now’s your chance. You wait until this all blows over, then you get dude murked. Anything less would be uncivilized.

Snoop Interview @ Dubcnn

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

snoop-7-26.jpg

Dubcnn has part 1 of a new Snoop interview up. Normally I wouldn’t post this, because Snoop doesn’t usually have anything particularly interesting to say (although he has been talking a little greasier than normal lately), but there were a couple of things that grabbed my attention. For one, he mentions that he was recently talking to Nas about doing a movie:

I was holla’ing at Nas the other night. Me and him was just chopping game and I was like "You know what? Cuzz, look what’s happening right now. The West and the East, we ain’t even in the game right now!" He was like "Yeah." I was like "I don’t like it!" and he was like "I don’t like it either!" I’m like "So what you and me need to do is a muthafuckin’ movie, fuck a record! Let’s make us a movie to show two bad niggas from the East and the West, and that would definitely bring that shit back home where it needs to be."

Uhh, no it wouldn’t. First off, neither one of you characters can act your way out of an empty weed baggie. Second of all, what makes you think a movie, even if on the odd chance it comes out halfway decent, is gonna do what so many albums and rappers have tried to do and failed? And while we’re on the subject, what exactly does the act of bringing your region/city back entail? When and how do you know that your region/city is actually back? The reality is when a rapper says he wants to bring something back to somewhere, what he actually means is he wants people to start buying his albums again. Well, Snoop I love you, but your last album sucked, and the same goes for you Nasir. You guys are now over thinking this thing to the point where you’re holding yourselves back. I know it’s been said before, but just make dope music and stop worrying about where you rank on the food chain.

Sidenote: Snoop also announces that he will soon be appointed CEO of Koch West, which technically, doesn’t even exist yet.

lupe-kick.jpg

Apparently Reebok is pissed at Lupe for performing at a Puma sponsored event held in celebration of his Kicksclusive cover. This is the same event where he reportedly bombed onstage despite a roomful of his target demographic. I don’t know though, Whatspoppin has pics of the event, and the crowd seemed to be enjoying themselves somewhat. (Thanks to Michael for the link)

HHG has new interviews up with Rock of Heltah Skeltah and Ras Kass.

Freshalina Lee Simmons has pics from Nas’s recent appearance in King, and the ol’ Ball and Chain in GQ. (Shouldn’t that be the other way around?)

XXL has posted a preview of the 50 feature from the new issue. So far it’s surprisingly good considering the subject.

So hold up, not only did Wendy broadcast personal information about Meth’s wife’s medical condition to the world, while she was at it she also suggested that he might be smashing her doctor? Man, fuck a slap, she deserves to be punched in the face like a man. Yeah I said it, and if Meth wants to throw me a couple of bucks (plus bail), I’ll do it for him.
