Notes on the process:

Nearly 300 parents, teachers, support staff and administrators as well as members of the DC Council provided responses and suggestions online, by phone, or at a community meeting that took place on April 14, 2010.

After reviewing the feedback, significant changes were made to the draft, reflecting the public’s advice about the placement of both the first Parent Teacher Conference and Spring Break. Thanks to all of you who provided us with excellent feedback.

This final calendar takes into consideration public commentary and, to the fullest extent possible, balances the interests and needs of children, parents, and teachers. The new calendar has 178 regular full instructional days plus four half-days to make 180 total student days as required by DC Municipal Regulations Title V, Chapter 3.

Notes on the calendar itself:

An Earlier Date for the First Parent-Teacher Conference

The first Parent-Teacher Conference has been moved earlier in the year to Monday, October 18th. Both families and teachers told us that December was too late for the first conference.

Spring Break

Spring Break will be held from April 15 – 25th.
