Biggert Statement on September Jobs Report

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate last month fell to 7.8 percent from 8.1 percent:

“Cracking the 8 percent unemployment barrier for the first time in nearly four years is a morale boost, but it’s not “mission accomplished.”  My hope is that this report provides a shot of confidence to job seekers, investors, and small businesses.  Unfortunately, there are still over 12 million Americans out of work, and millions more who have given up the search or settled for part-time jobs when they need a full-time paycheck.  To regain our economic momentum, we must immediately protect these fragile job gains from the tax hike looming on January 1st that could send us right back into recession.”
