Winans PRE"; with the artist in back of the two-horse carriage, uniformed driver, two very proud and handsome pullers; with the studio stamp on back denoting "From George Grantham Bain 82 Union Square East, N.Y. , their ownership credit statement and the date of May 23 1911; The Bain agency the first photographic news agency in the world, the major collection of their imagery now at the Library of Congress; Walter Winans (1852-1920) American born in Russia and living there until 18, continued his life in England. Became a very well-known sporting figure, painter, illustrator, sculptor concentrating his talents on horses (Who Was Who in American Art, 1999 3 vol. ed.); light wear to the image; very good condition and interesting sporting, photographic history.       Walter Winans (April 5, 1852 – August 12, 1920) was an American marksman, sculptor, and painter who participated in the 1908 and 1912 Summer Olympics. He won two medals for shooting: a gold in 1908 and a silver in 1912. He also won a gold medal for his sculpture An American Trotter at Stockholm in 1912.

      The prestashka is a Russian horsedrawn conveyance. Winans was an American citizen, born in Russia, of American parents.
