H.R. 5014 is expected to be considered on floor of the House of Representatives on May 12, 2010, under suspension of the rules.  The legislation was introduced by Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA) on April 14, 2010, and it was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means, which took no action on the legislation.

H.R. 5014 clarifies that health care provided by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs constitutes minimum essential coverage requirements under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 requires health care plans to meet certain benefit requirements.   In addition, the law lists the types of existing plans, such as Medicare and Medicaid, that meet those requirements. There has been some uncertainty about whether Tri-Care meets the requirements

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has not released a score of the bill.
