Chancellor added to injury report

Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor was a surprise addition to the team’s injury report today.

Chancellor did not practice because of a groin issue. Along with the Seattle safety, defensive end Red Bryant (foot) and cornerback Marcus Trufant (hamstring) did not practice for a second straight day.

Linebacker Leroy Hill (ankle) and center Max Unger (hip) were limited participants. And running back Marshawn Lynch (back) and receiver Sidney Rice (head) were full participants.

Wilson says revenge not on his mind vs. Cardinals

Russell Wilson agonized on the sidelines after the Seattle Seahawks opening-season loss against the Arizona Cardinals earlier this year.

The Seahawks failed to get into the end zone on four chances from the 6-yard line in the team’s 20-16 loss to the Cardinals.

So is revenge on Wilson’s mind as he faces the Cardinals for a second time?

C’mon, this is Russell Wilson we’re talking about here.

Morning links: Looking for the next Browner

Our own Dave Boling of The News Tribune writes with Brandon Browner accepting the league’s four-game suspension, the Seattle Seahawks will count on young players like Walter Thurmond and Jeremy Lane to fill the void.

Boling: “Carroll’s theory on elevating the understudy has a different feel when the departed is out by volition and poor judgment rather than injury. But the team doesn’t look at it that way. Veteran fullback and team captain Mike Robinson said it doesn’t matter.

“Next man up,” he said. “That’s the great thing about this team, we stick together. We understand that. Pete does a great job of making us understand it. Everybody in the locker room knows about the situations, and I think guys are gonna step up.”

Bevell plans to keep O-line shuffling to a minimum

Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said ideally he and offensive line coach Tom Cable would not like to move guys around on the offensive line. But with James Carpenter done for the season, Seattle will work to get the best five guys at their best positions for Sunday.

So that means you likely will see some shuffling along the interior of the offensive line this week, with Paul McQuistan, John Moffitt and J.R. Sweezy all getting reps at both guard spots.

“We try not to move guys around,” Bevell said. “I mean you’d like to be able to plug the next guy in, (because) then when you start moving pieces, now you’re affecting two and three spots. So we’ll do as minimal movement as we can, but there may be times where you have to do that.”

Walter Thurmond is the next man up

Since he took the Seahawks head job three years ago, Pete Carroll has preached a “next man up” mentality when it comes to injuries or suspension on his team.

So it’s appropriate that Walter Thurmond, who will start in place of a suspended Brandon Browner this weekend against Arizona at cornerback, will take that approach this week.

“It feels good to finally get the opportunity,” Thurmond said. “I’ve just got to make plays.”

Larry Fitzgerald interview

Because we ended up getting our conference call with Larry Fitzgerald at the same time as Pete Carroll’s press conference, I ended up being the only Seattle reporter there, which made for a nice one-on-one interview. If you wonder why this guy has played at the level he has for so long, some of his answers are good indicators of his competitive drive and professionalism.

Larry, how do you deal with the way things are going for the Cards? “Just be professional, this is our job, our livelihood. You gotta go out there and work hard every day and give

Browner drops appeal effort, 4-game suspension starts now

The league announced that Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner will be suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

Browner had been considered appealing the decision, but instead will begin serving the suspension immediately. Richard Sherman reportedly has an appeal date with the league set up for Dec. 14, so he will be eligible to play this Sunday against Arizona.

He will be eligible to return to the Seahawks’ active roster on Monday, December 31 following the team’s final regular season game on December 30 against the St. Louis Rams.

Browner is eligible to participate in all playoff games.
