Reaction of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) to President Obama's Announcement on Vehicle Fuel Standards

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued a statement regarding President Obama's announcement of increased Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards:

“The President’s announcement today to streamline and accelerate national fuel economy standards is commendable,” said U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert (R-13th-Il), a senior member of the House Committee on Science and Technology. “For years, automakers resisted attempts to improve fuel efficiency but now recognize they must adapt to America’s new appetite for energy efficient cars. With the help of Department of Energy incentive programs and increased battery technology deployment from Argonne National Lab, automakers can make the necessary manufacturing retrofits and acquire new technologies necessary to meet the new standards.”
