  • The 13th Congressional District & Map

Ohio's 13th Congressional District truly is a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Congresswoman Sutton has lived most of her life in and around the communities that make up much of the district, and she is proud to represent the people and places she knows and loves so much.

Originally nicknamed the “Turnpike District”, the 13th Congressional District’s unique shape traces across the shoreline of Lake Erie in Lorain County, captures the “Emerald Necklace” of the Cleveland MetroParks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and extends south to include the Portage Lakes State Park in Summit County. The 13th Congressional District is also home to institutions of higher learning such as Lorain County Community College and The University of Akron.

The 13th Congressional District stretches across four of Northeast Ohio’s most populous counties, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, and Summit, and it includes all or some of over thirty communities.

Representative Sutton Celebrates Cinco de Mayo and Hispanic Contributions to America

Washington, DC - Tomorrow, Congresswoman Betty Sutton (D-OH) will join millions of Americans in celebrating Cinco de Mayo, the day marking the Mexican army's defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

"Cinco de Mayo gives us an opportunity to celebrate the importance of Hispanics in this country, specifically the contributions Mexican-Americans have made and how their achievements strengthen our nation," Rep. Sutton said. "This occasion reminds us that all people - regardless of their race or color - need freedom, liberty and self-determination. For Mexico, Cinco de Mayo has become a symbol of unity and patriotism. In the United States, it is also a celebration of the rich heritage that has contributed to our American culture.

I am working with my colleagues to meet the vital concerns of Hispanic families across the nation, including cutting taxes for 95 percent of working families, increasing SBA loans for small businesses, preparing for the census, and adopting a much-needed 11.7 percent increase for veterans' health care and other services. This increase honors more than 190,000 Hispanic men and women who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 and 1.1 million Hispanic veterans."

Latinos are the fastest-growing minority group in the United States. There are now 45.5 million Hispanics in the United States (approximately 15.1 percent of the population). Hispanics also have the largest minority-owned business community with a record 1.6 million Hispanic-owned businesses generating annual revenues of $220 billion. In Congress, there are 30 Hispanic members, including 25 Democrats.
