Biggert to Host Grant Supermarket and Job Fair

Willowbrook, IL – This August, U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13) will host two special local events – a job fair and a grant supermarket -- aimed at connecting area job seekers and business owners with new economic opportunities.

The first event, a Federal Grant Supermarket, will give professionals from local businesses, non-profit organizations and municipalities a chance to shop for federal grants, learn how to contract with the federal government, and fine-tune their grant-writing skills.

“In this tough economic climate, we want to make sure that local employers can take advantage of every opportunity to grow their businesses,” said Biggert. “At the Federal Grant Supermarket, business professionals will learn about new resources and get the tools they need to compete for a variety of grants and contracts.  From help with exports to accessing credit, we’ll connect business leaders with programs designed to increase sales and create jobs here at home.”

Federal agencies that will be on hand to discuss grant and contracting opportunities at this free event include: the Department of Education; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Department of Commerce; Export-Import Bank; and many more.  The Federal Grant Supermarket will take place on Tuesday, August 9th from 9 am to 1 pm at the Training Center at Giant Steps, 2500 Cabot Drive in Lisle.

"The Village of Lisle thanks Congresswoman Judy Biggert for proactively helping businesses learn about available grants and contracting opportunities via the creative Grant Supermarket,” said Lisle Mayor Joe Broda.  “In today's world, knowledge is power and the information learned during Judy's Grant Supermarket will help our businesses thrive in these tough economic times."

Biggert also invites area businesses and job seekers to participate in her Job Fair.  The fair will connect job seekers with great career opportunities from a wide spectrum of industries and some of our area’s top employers, large and small.  Attendees also will be able to take advantage of workshops designed to teach job seekers how to write an excellent resume, stand out during an interview, or apply for federal employment.  The Job Fair will take place on Monday, August 29th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Romeoville Recreation Center, 900 W. Romeo Road.

“With unemployment remaining in the near double digits for 29 straight months, it’s difficult to find work, especially for those fresh to the market and those with very specialized experience.  Job seekers will have the ability to network with dozens of companies, line up interviews, and make connections that can lead to a great career,” said Biggert.  “This will be our third fair since 2009, and each time we’ve received great feedback from local employers who found talented employees at our events.”

“We’re pleased to partner with Rep. Biggert’s office for her second job fair in Romeoville.  Highlighting job opportunities in the area is a crucial and needed service - especially here in Will County where unemployment remains in the double-digits,” said Romeoville Mayor John Noak.

Employers that would like to register to host a free booth at the job fair should contact Rep. Biggert’s office at (630) 655-2052 to request an RSVP form or email RSVPJobs@mail.house.gov
