    About
  1. Photo: I attended the U.S.-India Congressional Caucus Appreciation Dinner last night. While there, I caught up with Joseph Melookaran, President of JMA Information Technology Inc. Mr. Melookaran is from Overland Park and it's always great to meet up with Kansans in Washington.
  2. Photo: I met with Dr. Steven Nash and learned about the innovative, patient-centered business model used by KC Urology Care and the latest in prostate cancer treatment options. Thanks for showing me your facility.
  3. Photo: I had a great meeting with a variety of health care stakeholders in my office to discuss the “fiscal cliff” and the impact federal regulations are having on the health care providers in our communities, as well as the patients they serve. We are fortunate to have access to some of the very best health care in the nation right here in Kansas City. Unfortunately, burdensome federal regulations and unnecessary paperwork requirements are forcing many providers to limit the care they can provide. I appreciate the honest feedback and suggestions for how to fix these issues. We will continue to work to increase access to quality health care.
  4. Photo: Marc O'Leary from the Strawberry Hill Povitica Company stopped by the office. Marc has a great small business right in Kansas City - and his Povitica Bread is famous not only locally, but from coast to coast. Thanks to Marc for coming by.

  5. Photo: Earlier, I recorded a Holiday video greeting for our troops on the Pentagon Channel in the Cannon Rotunda. Members of Congress taped the holiday greetings to be played for the troops and will be broadcast worldwide. We can't say thank you enough for what these soldiers and their families do.
  6. Photo: This morning I sat down with Olathe Chamber of Commerce members for a roundtable discussion about the issues surrounding the "fiscal cliff." Thank you to those who attended - your input is important to me as I head back to Washington this week and work to find solutions to the looming tax and budget issues before the end of the year.
  7. Photo: I met with Johnson County members of the Kansas Society of CPAs for an in-depth discussion about the fiscal cliff and what Congress should do to avoid the consequences of inaction. I greatly appreciate meeting with these Certified Public Accountants as I value their feedback and advice on tax policy and issues surrounding the fiscal cliff discussion.
  8. Photo: Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you to Pastor Jarvis Collier and the Pleasant Green Baptist Church in KCK for all they do to ensure Thanksgiving is enjoyed by all.
  9. Photo: Today we joined Pastor Jarvis Collier and many friends and volunteers at the Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas to share in the blessing of the holiday. We helped volunteers as they prepared almost 1,000 meals for residents of the Kansas City community. Thanks to all of those who volunteered and thanks to the wonderful congregation for allowing me to joint them today for worship and work on this Thanksgiving day.

  10. Photo: I toured A&E Custom Manufacturing earlier - they’ve been in Kansas City, Kansas for over 50 years. After starting out as a tool & die shop in 1959, A&E Manufacturing developed metal stamping capabilities in the 1980’s and have expanded into sheet metal fabrication since 2001. Thank you to Steve Hasty for inviting me to visit and showing me around the shop - met a lot of great people today.

  11. Photo: As a fellow Rotarian, I enjoyed the chance to address the Downtown KCK Rotary Club today at lunch. We discussed current issues in Washington and what is to come in the next several weeks - namely tax reform and the fiscal cliff.
  12. Photo: I visited Ravenwood Elementary School in Olathe last night to meet with the Webelo Scouts of Pack 3095, Den 4 and Den 7. These Scouts were looking to complete a requirement and earn their Citizenship Achievement award. I stopped by to discuss my job as a U.S. Representative and how they can remain involved and interested in civic duty and service to others. I very much appreciated the opportunity to speak with these young Scouts – they had great questions for me, and will undoubtedly continue to be involved and engaged in their community. Thank you for inviting me to visit with you.
  13. Photo: I had a nice visit with Nancy Lindquist from the local ALS Association - Keith Worthington Chapter, and Diana Heath from Fairway, KS. ALS is a progressive neurological disease that affects a person’s motor skills. There is no known cure or cause. The Keith Worthington Chapter provides care and support to patients like Diana in the Kansas City area. I appreciated Nancy and Diane stopping by and taking the time to share their legislative priorities and update me on their latest research.
  14. Photo: I had a great conversation with the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce this afternoon. We discussed the "Fiscal Cliff" and what can be done to avoid the effects on Americans if Congress doesn't act by January 1st. We talked about what exactly is ahead for our country and what options available to avoid the consequences of Congressional inaction. I appreciated the opportunity to speak with the OP Chamber and I value their feedback and advice on
  15. Photo: I enjoyed attending the Henry W. Bloch Human Relations Award presentation and ceremony last night. The 2012 award recipient is UMKC Chancellor Leo Morton. It was great to speak with Chancellor Morton and I congratulate him on receiving this award. Chancellor Morton gave a terrific speech, and is well known for his service to the community, civic leadership, and devotion to Kansas City. Thank you to the Jewish Community Relations Bureau/American Jewish Committee for presenting the award.
  16. Photo: Blue Valley High School was recently named a 2012 Blue Ribbon School, a prestigious honor awarded to only 269 schools nationwide this year. The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors exemplary elementary, middle and high schools based on overall academic excellence or for making progress in improving student academic achievement levels. This is the second time Blue Valley High has won this distinction. Congratulations to Scott Bacon, Principal at Blue Valley, and Theresa Schulte, one of Blue Valley’s teachers, for this tremendous recognition they received. Saint Thomas Aquinas High School also received the Blue Ribbon award as well - congratulations to both of these outstanding schools!
