Creating Jobs and Revitalizing Neighborhoods in Fresno

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Dear Friend:

Job creation and economic recovery are a nationwide challenge, but some of the best solutions can be found at the local level.  That’s why I am so pleased that the Obama Administration has chosen Fresno as one of six American cities to launch the “Strong Cities, Strong Communities” (SC2) initiative, designed to help local governments develop and carry out their own economic vision and strategies.

SC2 is bringing experienced federal staff to live in Fresno and assist the Mayor’s Office and the Fresno Community Solutions Team to promote job creation and community development.

SC2 has three key goals:

  • Working with the local community to find ground-up solutions and to make better use of existing federal investments in the area;
  • Developing partnerships with key local and regional stakeholders -- not only local government but also the business community, nonprofit organizations, faith-based institutions, and other public, private, and philanthropic leaders; and
  • Improving the way government does business by cutting through red tape and helping local officials navigate the maze of federal agencies, regulations, and program requirements that are sometimes confusing to local governments.

Strong Cities, Strong Communities is bringing increased attention and technical assistance to help Fresno create jobs and revitalize neighborhoods.  To read more about this exciting new initiative, please click here.
