Reaction of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert to the President's Nomination of Francis Collins to be Director of the National Institutes of Health

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) issued the following statement today after President Obama announced his nomination of Dr. Francis Collins, M.D., Ph.D., to be Director of the National Institutes of Health on July 8th:

“I’m exceptionally pleased that President Obama has nominated Dr. Collins to be Director of the NIH.  I had the honor of working with Dr. Collins to get the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act drafted into law.  In the process, he continually demonstrated his dedication to genetic freedom and the advancement of medicine.  Furthermore, his work on the Human Genome Project is one of the most significant accomplishments in modern science and has helped advance the frontiers of human understanding.  He is not only one of the world’s outstanding scientists; he is also a good friend.  I hope that the Senate will confirm him quickly, and I look forward to working with him in his new position.”
