Washington, DC– Today, the House Ways and Means Committee held a markup on legislation to stop the Obama Administration from gutting work requirements for welfare recipients.

“Let’s not go backwards to the bad old days of welfare where doing your hair, jogging, writing in your diary and reading ‘I’m OK, You’re OK” qualified as work by some states. That’s not work in the real world and it won’t get welfare recipients back to work,”said Brady as he systematically fact-checked the administration’s claims about their new waiver program.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has stated that the administration circumvented Congress in waiving the work requirements of the bi-partisan 1996 welfare reform law. Read more on the House Ways and Means Committee website here.
