Two students weave a large rug at the Arzu Studio Hope compound in the Dragon Valley, west of the town of Bamyan, June 20, 2012. Women enrolled in the program receive higher-than-average compensation for their work, and they, their children, and any female in the household are required to attend literacy classes. They also have access to day care for their children, hot water to wash clothes, a kitchen, and a garden where they can grow their own vegetables and herbs. Kids over 15, like the two seen here, can learn the skills of rug weaving when not attending classes.
