The City has released its draft Housing Master Plan for public review and comment. The Housing Master Plan is intended to guide future preservation and enhancement of affordable housing opportunities, community diversity, and economic sustainability in Alexandria. The draft Plan and an “At a Glance” summary is available at alexandriava.gov/HousingPlan.
The City provides holiday tree recycling for residents who receive City refuse collection. Starting Monday, January 7 until Friday, January 18, residents may place holiday trees at the curb for pickup. These trees are recycled and ground into mulch, which is available to residents in the spring. Trees placed at the curb before January 7 will be collected as regular refuse.
Winter weather is approaching, and City’s snow response teams, public safety, and emergency management are ready. Leaf collection services are currently running on a delayed schedule, visit alexandriava.gov/LeafCollection for details. The City asks residents not to rake wet leaves into the street for collection, and make sure debris is separated from loose leaf pickup. Paper leaf bags will be collected at the front curb, one business day after regular refuse collection, for recycling. Yard waste and leaves in plastic bags will be disposed of at the Waste-to-Energy Plant and not recycled.
The Alexandria Marketing Fund is a grant program providing seed money in the form of matching funds for new and innovative marketing programs. The Fund also provides funding for the expansion of ongoing or pre-existing programs.The Fund is designed to increase revenues within the City of Alexandria by fostering public/private partnerships that promote the City as a destination for visiting, shopping, dining, and doing business. The deadline for the third round of FY 2013 grants is Thursday, January 17.
