Reaction of U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert to December Jobs Report

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported a loss of 85,000 jobs in the month of December, with the national unemployment rate remaining at 10 percent:

“With unemployment rates stuck in the double-digits, millions of American families are struggling just to make ends meet.  Congress needs to get back to work, put our economy back on the front burner, and stop spending money like there’s no tomorrow.  Instead, leaders in Washington seem intent on forging ahead with more of the same back-room dealing that gave us a failed stimulus package and record unemployment.  It’s time to set aside the government health care takeover, end the bailouts, and stop pushing energy policies that would only guarantee further job losses.  Let’s start working together on bipartisan legislation that will jump-start recovery – now -- through pro-growth strategies on taxes, energy, finance, and healthcare.”
