Biggert Encourages Residents to Send Holiday Mail to Heroes

Congresswoman Judy Biggert joins her colleagues on Capitol Hill to send holiday cards to the troops as part of the 2011 Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes Program.

Willowbrook, IL – U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today launched the 2011 National Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program on her website to help make the holidays brighter for members of the military, veterans, and their families.  By visiting Biggert’s website at http://judybiggert.house.gov, residents can take part in a special program that sends hundreds of thousands of holiday cards to veterans, wounded soldiers and active duty military, many of whom will be separated from their families during the holidays.  Biggert today participated in a congressional card-signing event on Capitol Hill to express her gratitude for the sacrifices made by our United States service members.

“With the holidays fast approaching, there’s no better time to send a special thank you to those who have fought to defend the freedoms we enjoy,” said Biggert.  “The holidays are a difficult time of the year for those who are separated from their loved ones.  Receiving holiday cards lets our brave men and women in uniform know that we appreciate their sacrifices and are wishing them a safe return home.  This year, we are encouraging everyone in the 13th District to participate.”

The Holiday Mail for Heroes program was launched in 2007 as a way for the Red Cross to provide holiday greetings to the wounded soldiers receiving care at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.  Since then, Pitney Bowes joined the project and in past years, more than 1.4 million cards have been received through the program.
