Biggert Statement on October Jobs Report

Washington, DC– U.S. Representative Judy Biggert (R-IL-13th) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate last month shrunk by 0.1% to 9%:

“Today’s announcement that unemployment ticked downward reflects a small, but welcome step in the right direction.  We’ll certainly need many more months of small steps and large leaps to jolt the economy and make a difference for the nearly 14 million Americans without work.  Washington needs to get its act together, cut the debt, and give job creators and small businesses the certainty they need to start growing again.  That means easing the tax and regulatory burdens that stand in the way of capital formation, reaching new markets, or hiring new employees.  Last month we had a major bipartisan breakthrough on trade.  The President and the Senate need to follow that example, and work with us on more than twenty jobs bills the House has sent to the Senate.  This week, the House approved three new bills targeted at helping small businesses raise capital, and they deserve the full support of members on both sides of the aisle.”
