DCCC Chairman Israel’s Statement on House Republicans’ Refusal to Vote on Middle Income Tax Cuts

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released the following statement after House Democrats introduced a discharge petition, which Chairman Israel signed today, to force a vote extending tax cuts for the middle class and avoiding the fiscal cliff.

“Time is up for House Republicans: Bring a vote to the floor to pass tax cuts for middle class families. Republicans now have a chance to sign this petition, break with their leadership and hit the brakes on the car before it goes over the fiscal cliff.

“House Republican leaders are holding the middle class hostage to protect millionaires and their pledge to Grover Norquist. Republicans are willing to throw our economy and the middle class over the fiscal cliff, sticking middle income families with a $2,200 tax hike instead of ending tax cuts for millionaires to reduce our debt.”
